What E:29 means on a Fujitsu
The outdoor unit sees a different number of indoor units than it expects.
On this platform, E:29 is a fault: something has failed or is disconnected and needs diagnosis.
Common causes
- An indoor unit not powered or not communicating.
- A wiring fault to one zone.
How to fix it yourself
Work through the checks below first; they resolve most cases. If they do not, the repair itself may need a technician.
- Confirm every indoor unit has power.
- Check the interconnect wiring to each zone.
- Reset the system: switch the breaker (or the outdoor disconnect) off, wait a full five minutes so the boards fully discharge, then switch it back on and restart from the remote.
Switch off power at the breaker before opening either unit. Capacitors in the outdoor unit hold a charge for several minutes after power is cut.
When to call a technician
Technician check.
Which Fujitsu units show E:29
This page applies to Fujitsu Halcyon, Halcyon XLTH and Airstage multi-zone units. Fujitsu's own documentation lists E:29 as "Number of connected indoor units error", the same definition used across the Fujitsu General it is built on. If your unit shows a code with a different shape (for example a four-character code, or a plain number), it is from a different table; use the lookup with your exact code.
Where Fujitsu shows this code
Units with a display show the code as E:xx (E:41). Wall units without one flash the Operation and Timer lamps: count the Operation flashes for the first digit and the Timer flashes for the second, so 4 Operation flashes then 1 Timer flash is E:41. A wired controller shows the code directly. 1x codes are communication faults, 2x are configuration and combination errors, 3x and 4x are indoor board, sensor and fan faults, 6x and 7x are outdoor board and sensor faults, 9x are compressor and fan faults, and Ax codes are temperature and pressure protections.

Questions people ask
Can I reset a Fujitsu E:29 code myself?
Yes. Turn the system off at the breaker for five minutes, then restart it. If E:29 comes back, the fault is real and needs the checks above.
Is it safe to keep running a Fujitsu showing E:29?
The unit will usually refuse to run, or run with reduced output, until the fault is cleared. Repeated resets do not fix anything and can mask a problem that is getting worse.
Do I need a technician for Fujitsu E:29?
Work through the checks below first; they resolve most cases. If they do not, the repair itself may need a technician. Technician check.
