What P0 means on a Midea
The inverter power module that drives the compressor reported a fault: over-current, over-temperature, or an internal error. The outdoor unit shuts down to protect the compressor and the module.
On this platform, P0 is a protection: the system stopped or throttled itself to prevent damage; many clear on their own once conditions return to normal.
Common causes
- The outdoor coil is blocked or the fan has failed, so the module is overheating.
- Low or unstable supply voltage causing the module to draw excess current.
- A failing compressor drawing more current than the module can supply.
- A failed IPM or outdoor main board.
- Loose compressor terminal connections.
How to fix it yourself
Do the reset and the visual checks, but the underlying repair needs a technician with a meter and the service manual.
- Reset the system: switch the breaker (or the outdoor disconnect) off, wait a full five minutes so the boards fully discharge, then switch it back on and restart from the remote.
- Look at the outdoor unit: clear leaves, cottonwood fluff, snow or ice from the coil and make sure the fan can spin freely and nothing is stacked against the cabinet.
- If you own a multimeter and are comfortable using it, measure the supply voltage at the outdoor unit's L1 and L2 terminals with the unit running. A 230 V system should read roughly 208 to 253 VAC.
- If the code appears only on the hottest afternoons or during peak heating, heat rejection is the suspect. Clean the outdoor coil thoroughly.
- Do not keep resetting and running the unit. Repeated IPM trips can take the compressor with them.
Switch off power at the breaker before opening either unit. Capacitors in the outdoor unit hold a charge for several minutes after power is cut.
