What E:62 means on a Rheem
The outdoor control board failed its self-check or could not read its memory.
On this platform, E:62 is a fault: something has failed or is disconnected and needs diagnosis.
Common causes
- A surge or lightning event.
- A failed board.
How to fix it yourself
Do the reset and the visual checks, but the underlying repair needs a technician with a meter and the service manual.
- Reset the system: switch the breaker (or the outdoor disconnect) off, wait a full five minutes so the boards fully discharge, then switch it back on and restart from the remote.
- If the code comes straight back after a reset, the fault is real and not a glitch.
Switch off power at the breaker before opening either unit. Capacitors in the outdoor unit hold a charge for several minutes after power is cut.

This page applies to Rheem Classic and Classic Plus wall-mount (RIWH / ROWH), Endeavor Line multi-zone and Floating Air series (2023 and later) units on the Classic / Classic Plus (RIWH / ROWH, Fujitsu-built). Rheem's own documentation lists E:62 as "Outdoor unit main board fault (EEPROM)", the same definition used across the Fujitsu General it is built on. If your unit shows a code with a different shape (for example a four-character code, or a plain number), it is from a different table; use the lookup with your exact code.
Where Rheem shows this code
Classic / Classic Plus (RIWH / ROWH, Fujitsu-built): Units with a display show the code as E:xx (E:41). Wall units without one flash the Operation and Timer lamps: count the Operation flashes for the first digit and the Timer flashes for the second, so 4 Operation flashes then 1 Timer flash is E:41. A wired controller shows the code directly. 1x codes are communication faults, 2x are configuration and combination errors, 3x and 4x are indoor board, sensor and fan faults, 6x and 7x are outdoor board and sensor faults, 9x are compressor and fan faults, and Ax codes are temperature and pressure protections.

Can I reset a Rheem E:62 code myself?
Yes. Turn the system off at the breaker for five minutes, then restart it. If E:62 comes back, the fault is real and needs the checks above.
Is it safe to keep running a Rheem showing E:62?
The unit will usually refuse to run, or run with reduced output, until the fault is cleared. Repeated resets do not fix anything and can mask a problem that is getting worse.
What will a technician check for E:62?
Board replacement. Ask for the measurements, not just a parts quote.
