What P1 means on a AirEase
The outdoor board measured the DC bus or supply voltage outside its safe window and stopped the compressor. It will usually retry on its own when voltage returns to normal.
On this platform, P1 is a protection: the system stopped or throttled itself to prevent damage; many clear on their own once conditions return to normal.
Common causes
- Utility voltage sagging or spiking (common in rural areas and during heat waves).
- Running on an undersized generator, extension cord or inverter.
- A loose connection at the breaker, disconnect or outdoor terminal block, dropping voltage under load.
- A failed capacitor or PFC circuit on the outdoor board.
How to fix it yourself
Work through the checks below first; they resolve most cases. If they do not, the repair itself may need a technician.
- Reset the system: switch the breaker (or the outdoor disconnect) off, wait a full five minutes so the boards fully discharge, then switch it back on and restart from the remote.
- If you own a multimeter and are comfortable using it, measure the supply voltage at the outdoor unit's L1 and L2 terminals with the unit running. A 230 V system should read roughly 208 to 253 VAC.
- With power off, tighten every power connection from the breaker to the outdoor unit.
- If it happens only when other big loads start (well pump, dryer, EV charger), the branch circuit or service may be marginal. An electrician can check voltage drop.
- A whole-house or dedicated HVAC surge protector is cheap insurance if your utility power is rough.
Switch off power at the breaker before opening either unit. Capacitors in the outdoor unit hold a charge for several minutes after power is cut.

If supply voltage measures normal and the connections are tight, the outdoor board's power section is at fault and a technician should replace it.
Which AirEase units show P1
This page applies to AirEase 4DHV outdoor with DWH wall-mount indoor (2016 and later) units. AirEase's own documentation lists P1 as "Over-voltage or under-voltage protection", the same definition used across the Midea platform (classic codes) it is built on. If your unit shows a code with a different shape (for example a four-character code, or a plain number), it is from a different table; use the lookup with your exact code.
Where AirEase shows this code
The code appears on the indoor unit's LED display in place of the set temperature. Some models also blink the indicator lamps in a pattern that matches the code. E codes are faults in the indoor unit or its communication link, F codes are faults on the outdoor side, and P codes are protections: the outdoor unit has stopped itself to prevent damage. EC is the refrigerant leak check.

Can I reset a AirEase P1 code myself?
Yes. Turn the system off at the breaker for five minutes, then restart it. If P1 comes back, the fault is real and needs the checks above.
Is it safe to keep running a AirEase showing P1?
Not repeatedly. A protection code means the unit stopped itself to prevent damage, and resetting it over and over can turn a cheap repair into a compressor failure. Reset once, check the basics, and stop if it returns.
